How does the training work?

Circuit Training

In FunSkate, training is based on functional circuits where participants move from point to point, practicing different basic skating skills. The circuits make training clear, inspiring, and easily adaptable to different skill levels.

The exercises progress clearly from one level to another and allow for plenty of repetitions and experiences of success, which effectively supports learning.

Activity

In FunSkate, the starting point for training is that all participants are actively moving for up to 90% of the session. The activities are designed to minimize waiting in line and standing still.

Active participation increases both learning efficiency and the enjoyment of training.

Music

Music is a central part of FunSkate. Music guides the activities, helps maintain movement, and brings joy and energy to training. With music, exercises become smooth and clearly progressive sessions that inspire participants to move and confidently try new skills.

Basic Skating Skills

are common to all ice skaters, regardless of age, background, or sport. They form the foundation for safe, smooth, and versatile movement on ice. Practicing basic skills develops balance, agility, coordination, and movement confidence, and supports physical, mental, and social well-being. Skating is an important Finnish life skill that enables active movement on ice throughout life.

Basics - Getting Familiar with Ice and Moving on Ice

The first steps on ice build confidence and courage to move in a new environment. In the basics, you learn safe falling and getting up, as well as independent movement without support. The goal is to create a positive first experience with skating and experiences of success right from the start.

Forward-oriented skills help you learn to control your body in motion, maintain balance, and glide in a controlled manner. Good balance increases safety, makes movement smoother, and supports functional ability in everyday situations as well.

Coordination helps combine movements into a smooth whole. Practicing backward-oriented skills and stopping develops coordination, motor skills, and spatial awareness. These skills increase confidence and safety when moving on ice.

Agility helps change direction and control movement in different situations. Turns, direction changes, and jumps develop movement control, sense of rhythm, and reaction ability. These skills create a foundation for versatile physical activity and all ice sports.
